Junk Bots have become a favorite project in our weekly kids’ classes and summer camps! Over the years, we’ve been noticing some dads and grand-dads in particular who seem like they want to join in on the fun, so we are offering this Family Workshop… open to kids of all ages! Adults can come alone, or bring along a child or a friend. Ideally, children come with an adult that can help them through the process, but older kids may come alone.
Our Junk Bots start with a colorful block of wood with holes drilled for eyes, arms, legs and antennas. Students will choose from a variety of screws, nails, washers, nuts, and other junky bits to create their robot’s body parts and then use pliers and screwdrivers to assemble their bots.
This is a great problem solving activity as you have to find the right pieces to actually get your bot to stay together, what size and what type of fastener will work best. The goal is to use only junk and no glue, but we usually have to pull out the E600 for the really tricky ones.
We are always impressed with the ideas that the kids come up with in the workshop. We have had Snake-Bots, Unicorn Bots, Pig and Sheep bots and even a Loch-Ness-Monster-Bot!
This would be a really cool workshops for dads (or grandads) and kids to do together! Family pricing will be offered.
This is also available as a private party. Just gather 6 friends for your own Junk Bot Party anytime!
